In addition to being a province rich in natural attractions and historical sites, Nong Khai is also a place steeped in a long and meaningful history. Therefore, when you visit Nong Khai, aside from exploring its popular landmarks, don’t forget to stop by an important historical site that marks the province's past victories: the Prah Ho Victory Monument. This monument is the only one of its kind in Nong Khai, located in front of the old provincial hall. It serves as the final resting place for the remains of those who lost their lives during the suppression of the Ho Rebellion in the year 2429 (1896) under the command of His Royal Highness Prince Pachak Silapakorn, who was the military leader during that time. The monument was commissioned to honor the bravery of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation in the fight against the Ho. Originally, the site was located near the police station in Nong Khai, but in 1949, the province received funding to build a more majestic monument befitting those who devoted their lives to the country. Consequently, it was relocated to its current prominent position in front of the provincial hall. The monument features inscriptions in Thai, Chinese, Lao, and English on its four sides. Each year, on March 5th, a ceremonial tribute and celebration are held to honor this monument, paying homage to the sacrifices made for the nation.
