The Goddess Lim Ko Niew Festival is a significant event in Pattani Province, just as the story of the goddess herself holds great importance. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn more about this revered figure. Legend has it that in the past, a woman named Lim Ko Niew sailed to the region with her brother, Lim To Kiem, who was marrying the daughter of the ruler of Pattani and converting to Islam. Feeling despondent because she could not persuade her brother to return to China as she had promised their mother, she tragically took her own life by hanging herself from a cashew tree. In mourning, Lim To Kiem buried his sister's body at the same spot. Later, the people of Pattani carved a statue from the very tree where Lim Ko Niew ended her life and dedicated a shrine to her, naming it the Lim Ko Niew Shrine. This shrine has become a sacred place of worship that is still respected and honored by the community today.
