Wat Khao Khun Phanom is located in Moo 3, Ban Ko sub-district, Phrom Khiri district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, at the foot of Khao Khun Phanom mountain. This ancient temple is believed to have been built during the Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom, approximately between the 18th and 20th centuries of the Buddhist Era. Local legends recount that this temple was a refuge for King Taksin the Great, where he spent time in seclusion as a monk. The people of Khao Khun Phanom hold a deep belief that King Taksin came to hide in this area, and they collaborated to build the King Taksin Royal Pavilion at a rocky ledge near the mountain's foot. This site is considered to be where the king resided during his monastic retreat.
