อำเภอสามง่าม เป็นอำเภอหนึ่งในจำนวน 12 อำเภอของจังหวัดพิจิตร ซึ่งแต่เดิมเป็นหมู่บ้านเล็กๆ มีคลองสำคัญไหลผ่านชื่อ " คลองสามง่าม" ไหลลงสู่แม่น้ำยม มองเห็นเป็นสามแฉกคล้ายสามง่ามจึงเรียกว่า " บ้านสามง่าม“
