The Old Town of Songkhla is located in the Muang district and features three main streets that are delightful for leisurely exploration: Nakhon Nok Road, Nakhon Nai Road, and Nang Ngam Road. These streets are lined with beautiful buildings and architecture that offer a glimpse into the rich history of the people of Songkhla through the lens of architecture. Approximately 200 years ago, the core of Songkhla was situated on the western shore of the lake, known as "Songkhla Town on the Laem Son Side." It wasn't until 1842 that the town expanded to the eastern bank in the area of Bo Yang, referred to as "Songkhla Town on the Bo Yang Side." Initially, there were two roads: Nakhon Nok, the outer road adjacent to the lake, and Nakhon Nai, the inner road within the town. Later, a third road was constructed, known as Khao Hong Road or Nine Rooms Area, to facilitate celebrations for the city pillar. This road later became known as Nang Ngam Road. This area is a point of pride for the people of Songkhla, showcasing the unique charm of the old town. Visitors can admire many historical buildings that are hard to come by elsewhere, including the distinctive remnants of the old city walls.
