Brief History
ชื่อเมืองสงขลาได้ปรากฏชื่อในพงศาวดารกรุงศรีอยุธยาในสมัยสมเด็จพระรามาธิบดีที่ 1 แห่งกรุงศรีอยุธยาเมื่อ พ.ศ. 1893 ว่าเป็นเมืองประเทศราชในจำนวน 16 หัวเมือง และในเอกสารที่บันทึกโดยคนไทยอีกหลายฉบับที่ศึกษาเกี่ยวกับเรื่องเมืองสงขลาได้บันทึกประวัติของชื่อเมืองสงขลาว่า มาจากบันทึกของพ่อค้า และนักเดินเรือชาวอาหรับเปอร์เซีย ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 1993-2093 ในนามของเมือง "ซิงกูร์" หรือ "ซิงกอรา" แต่ในหนังสือประวัติศาสตร์เและการเมืองแห่งราชอาณาจักรสยามของนายนิโกลาส แซร์แวส เรียกชื่อเมืองสงขลาว่า "เมืองสิงขร"
