The town of Sungai Kolok appears to be more lively than Narathiwat, likely because it is the largest border trading post in the province. Both Thai and Malaysian citizens can conveniently cross back and forth, thanks to a bridge connecting the two countries, which is open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Thai visitors often cross over to the Rantupunjang side to buy various goods, snacks, and toys. There's also a duty-free shop available. Meanwhile, Malaysians come over to purchase food and fruits. The Sungai Kolok border checkpoint is located about 1 kilometer from the Sungai Kolok railway station. Traveling from Narathiwat to Sungai Kolok can be done via two routes. The first route involves taking Highway 4055 (Narathiwat-Raheng) and then turning left at Ban Manang Tai Yo onto Highway 4056, passing through the Sungai Padi district to reach Sungai Kolok. This route covers a distance of 63 kilometers. The second option is to take Highway 4084 towards Tak Bai and then turn right onto Highway 4057 (Tak Bai-Sungai Kolok), which stretches for 66 kilometers. From the Sungai Kolok checkpoint, travelers can drive across the bridge into Kota Bahru in Malaysia. However, it's important to note that cars entering Malaysia must have vehicle insurance (for details, check at the Tabah checkpoint).
