Khun Chao Luang in Phrae is an exquisite example of architecture from the early reign of King Rama V, showcasing a blend of traditional Thai and European styles, often referred to as gingerbread architecture. The building features a roof made of a type of wood known as "Mai Pan Kled," characterized by its absence of gable ends typical of the Thaiปั้นหยา house style. A square bay protrudes from the front of the structure, topped with a triangular roof. The eaves and decorative elements around the building are adorned with intricately carved woodwork, adding to its aesthetic appeal. Constructed from brick and mortar, this two-story building does not rely on deep foundations but stands on logs, primarily made of hardwood, including teak and red wood, which support the entire base of the structure. This remarkable building has been awarded a prestigious architectural prize for its outstanding design in the category of institutional and public buildings by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Furthermore, the province of Phrae has designated Khun Chao Luang Museum as a center for historical study and a resource for exploring the region's religious, artistic, and cultural heritage.
