The "Local Museum of Shipbuilding His Majesty King Taksin the Great," also known as "Samet Ngam Shipyard," is located about 11 kilometers from the city of Chanthaburi. It is believed to be the site where King Taksin the Great used to build ships in preparation for his military campaign against Burma, aimed at restoring Thailand's independence in 1767, as recorded in the Thonburi Chronicles by Phan Janthanuamas. According to the chronicles, King Taksin commanded the construction of around 100 ships near Wat Samet Ngam, which is not far from this location. A large number of golden teak stumps have been discovered here, and there are accounts of a canal that was dug to transport teak logs to the shipyard. Therefore, it is presumed that this area served as the shipyard for King Taksin before various ships were excavated.
