The monument is a symbol of the city and a significant landmark of the province. Most visitors who pass through tend to pay their respects here. Surrounding the monument, there is a market where people can stroll and shop for various goods. The Monument of Phaya Phichai Dap Hak was erected to honor his bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice. Historically, Phaya Phichai ruled the city of Phichai during the Thonburi period. He etched his name in history especially in the year 1773, when the Burmese army invaded Phichai. Phaya Phichai mobilized his troops to confront the Burmese forces, resulting in a decisive victory that sent them retreating. During this battle, one of his swords famously broke, yet he continued to triumph over the Burmese army. This remarkable act of valor earned him the title "Phaya Phichai Dap Hak," meaning "Phaya Phichai with the Broken Sword."
