Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Center, Eastern Gulf of Thailand

309 Moo 1, Pak Nam Prasae Subdistrict, Klaeng District.

Thanks to the royal guidance of Her Majesty the Queen, efforts to rehabilitate sea turtles have sparked public awareness and participation in the conservation of Thai turtles. Since the Department of Fisheries received Koh Munnin from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in 1979, many sea turtles have been helped to survive the threat of extinction. Countless turtle eggs have been nurtured in a conservation center until they grow and swim back into the ocean. Koh Munnin houses the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center of the Gulf of Thailand’s eastern coast, featuring several beautiful bays, including Ton Makham Bay, Mangrove Bay, Rock Bay, and Na Ban Bay. Visitors to this island will gain valuable knowledge about Thai sea turtles and numerous other marine animals. In addition to the exhibition building for turtle rehabilitation, which is used for nurturing and recovering sea turtles, the coastal area features over 30 rai (approximately 12 acres) of natural turtle enclosures. This space serves as a nesting ground for breeding sea turtles. A visit here can be a day trip, arriving in the morning and returning in the evening; however, it promises to be an impressively memorable experience. *Must-See Attractions* - The Marine Life Museum, where the life of turtles is simulated alongside displays of dolphin skeletons and other marine animals. - Mangrove Bay, renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches. During low tide, a sandbank stretches about 200 meters toward Koh Munnin, offering stunning views of coral at Na Ban Bay. There are no restaurants or shops selling food and drinks on the island, so it’s advisable to come prepared with your own supplies. *Unmissable Activities* - Participate in the release of baby turtles back into the ocean. - Hike through the forest to enjoy the scenic view from the octagonal pavilion.
