Wat Sommithepthapnarang (Laemsorn Temple) has a rich history tied to the visit of King Chulalongkorn, Rama V. On the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, which fell on a Sunday in the year of the monkey, 2427 (1884), His Majesty traveled to the coastal town on the eastern side and made his residence at Paknam Prasae in Laemsorn, near the stupa (which still stands today). He expressed his thoughts that "Paknam Laemsorn should indeed be a suitable place for the establishment of a temple." Following this royal decree, he ordered Phra Kaelang Klaekla (Mung), the governor of Klaeng, to construct a temple at the site near the stupa, naming it "Wat Sommithepthapnarang." He graciously provided 10 rai and 2 ngan of land for the temple's construction. Once Phra Kaelang Klaekla (Mung) received this royal command, he initially built a monk's quarters, a prayer hall, a dining hall, and an additional kuti, taking two years to complete these structures. The temple then performed its first consecration ceremony in 2445 (1902). The Ministry of Religious Affairs dispatched a pulpit and a bronze statue of King Chulalongkorn for the royal temple, along with other royal gifts.
