Join us in paying homage to the majestic Phra Suvali, the Great Buddha, at Wat Mai Suphdittharam. This temple is one of the oldest in the region, established during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Rama V, in the year 1895 (B.E. 2438). At that time, he initiated a provincial administration system, appointing Phaya Mahathep (Boon Boonyaratphan) as the first governor of Nakhon Chai Si. Later, King Chulalongkorn graciously appointed Luang Sani Pitak (Chom Suntharajun), the governor of Phichit, to also oversee Nakhon Chai Si. Luang Sani Pitak contributed significantly to the city's development, particularly in terms of religion by establishing this temple in 1896 (B.E. 2439), located to the north of the Nakhon Chai Si District Office. The temple was initially called “Wat Mai Rimjuan.” Subsequently, Prince Suphadiwat Rithirach, the second son of King Mongkut, Rama IV, constructed the main chapel, the ordination hall, a stupa, and another pair of Buddhist sanctuaries at this temple, which led to its current name, “Wat Mai Suphdittharam,” a name it still retains today.
