Wat Klang Bang Kaew is an ancient temple located by the Tha Chin River, originally named Wat Kongkaram, situated in Nakhon Chai Si District. Within the temple grounds, there is an old ordination hall (ubosot), a vihara, and a revered Buddha image, believed to date back to the Ayutthaya period, as inferred by archaeologists. The temple houses the Phra Buddha Vithi Nayok Museum, which preserves a collection of valuable artifacts and art pieces, including personal belongings of two former abbots: Luang Phu Boon (Phra Chao Khun Buddha Vithi Nayok, Boon Kanthachoti), who managed the temple from 1886 to 1935, and Luang Phu Perm (Phra Buddha Vithi Nayok, Perm Punnyavassano), a disciple of Luang Phu Boon who succeeded him as the abbot. The museum is organized into three levels. The ground floor features a display of the history and belongings of Luang Phu Boon and Luang Phu Perm, including talismans, sacred objects, and Buddha statues. Another section is dedicated to traditional Thai medicine, showcasing herbs, remedies, a hand-written astrological calendar by Luang Phu, as well as statues and photographs of him. Additionally, there are palm leaf manuscripts, traditional medical texts, and astrology books on display. The second floor exhibits dishes, glassware, brassware, and the mother-of-pearl dhammasana (a pedestal for the teacher) that was gifted by His Royal Highness Prince Athisak Thipha, who served as the regent for King Ananda Mahidol during the 8th reign. The third floor displays a silver Buddha image, an intricately carved, gilded wooden dhammasana, and the old kuti (monk’s dwelling) of Luang Phu, arranged as it was during his lifetime to enshrine a wax figure of the abbot. The museum is open for visits from Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission fees are 20 baht for adults and 10 baht for students. If visiting as a group, prior permission must be obtained in writing from the abbot of Wat Klang Bang Kaew.
