The origin of the name of Wat Saeng Kaew Bodhiyanna comes from "Saeng Kaew," which means light shining like a brilliant gem emanating from a lotus flower. The symbol of the "lotus flower" found in visions is a metaphor for "Bodhi Wisdom," which represents the ultimate knowledge or understanding of enlightenment. The term "Bodhi" signifies awakening, while "Jnana" translates as knowing. Therefore, "Bodhi Wisdom" can be simply understood as the knowledge of enlightenment or the realization of truth. Originally, this place was known as Mon Saeng Kaew Hill, which appeared in the visions of the revered monk Khru Ba Ariyachat, and thus it became Wat Saeng Kaew Bodhiyanna. The monk Phra Pawana Ratthanayana (Khru Ba Ariyachat Ariyajitto) moved from Wat Phra That Dong Si Ma to become the abbot of this temple, a position he has held ever since.
