The history of Wat Suwannakuhawari Wong, or Wat Tham Pong Phang, is deeply tied to its beautiful location at the far end of Thung Makham Bay in the west. The atmosphere at the temple is still imbued with a natural serenity; the front of the temple faces the sea, while the back is nestled against a cliff. This area is part of the Chumphon Marine National Park. A notable feature of this temple is its abbot, Phra Kru Boonma Papakaro, who is well-known throughout Chumphon province and neighboring areas. He is a dedicated monk, currently 86 years old, who diligently observes his precepts. Remarkably, he continues to practice a one-meal-a-day routine and adheres to a vegetarian diet. This makes the temple an ideal place for those wishing to make merit with a genuinely devoted monk.
