According to legend, the principal Buddha statue enshrined in the Ubosot was never fully completed, particularly the statue's head. The artisan working on it could not achieve success, leading to the decision to abandon the attempt and cover the statue with a tunnel, which is how the temple got its name, Wat Umong. Later, the abbot of the temple, Phra No Lakkham, had a dream in which Indra, the king of the gods, along with other deities, came to assist in completing the statue's head. As a result, the head of the Buddha statue has a beautifully refined appearance, which is the origin of the temple's current name. It is believed that those who come to pay their respects will experience fulfillment, recover lost items, and find relief from ailments, particularly in career advancement and in competitive examinations.
