The ancient temple was established by King Ramkhamhaeng of Hariphunchai during the years 1606 to 1611. Originally named Wat Phra Thammasathana, the highlight of this temple, Wat Phra Yuen, lies in its stupa designed in the form of a mandapa, featuring standing Buddha statues facing all four directions. The structure includes a five-tiered stupa, with a bell-shaped stupa and a smaller round stupa at the center, resembling the Ananda Stupa in Bagan and the stupa of Wat Pa Sak in Chiang Rai.
