Located in Ban Dhu Sub-district, this site was originally named Wat Phra That Doi Ban Yang. It was established during the era of the Yonok Chai Buri Sri Chieng Saen until the reign of King Phang Kracha, the 24th monarch of the Yonok dynasty. A revered monk from the city of Suthammavadi named Phra Buddha Khochacharn brought 16 sacred relics from Sri Lanka as offerings to the king. King Phang Kracha graciously decided to divide these relics into three parts: the first set was enshrined at Phra That Chom Thong, the second at Phra That Chom Kitti, and the third was placed at Phra That Doi Ban Yang. Later, in 1947, Phra Kru Ba Kamla Sangvaro renovated the site by constructing a chedi around the original relics. Eventually, it was renamed Phra That Chom Sak.
