When mentioning Wat Ban Sanam Chai in Phon Muang Subdistrict, Aksorn District, Roi Et Province, it may not be widely recognized. Originally, it served merely as a monk's retreat where "Luang Por Udomsap," a wandering monk from Mae Hong Son, anchored to practice Vipassana meditation. During this time, he also cultivated the land, transforming it from previously barren farmland into a lush temple filled with trees, creating a serene and tranquil environment ideal for spiritual practice. In December 1979, it was officially recognized as a temple with a designated area of 53 rai and 3 ngan. Currently, Luang Por Udomsap serves as the monk chairman, while Phra Maha Kanjana Kanthatharo acts as the abbot. One standout feature that has elevated the temple's profile today, and is unique in Thailand, is the "Permanent Wax Figure Exhibition Depicting the Life of the Buddha." This project is part of the meditation training camp initiated by Wat Phutthaisawan, led by Luang Por Udomsap. Phra Kru Opas Piphat, the head monk of Aksorn District, oversees its management. The construction encompasses 30 rooms that narrate the story of the Buddha from his time before birth through to his parinibbana. Among the completed exhibitions are the Coronation Room, displaying the wax figures of King Suddhodana and Queen Maya during the coronation ceremony, the Dream Room, showcasing the wax figure of Queen Maya experiencing a dream about a white elephant, and the Birth Room, which depicts the wax figure of Queen Maya giving birth to Prince Siddhartha under the Sala tree on the full moon of the sixth month (Visakha Puja Day).
