Wat Tham Rong

Ban Lat District, Phetchaburi

Watt Tham Rong is home to the revered statues of Luang Phor Dam and Luang Phor Khao. The temple is clean and serene, exuding an ancient charm, and it is also inhabited by monkeys. According to local legends, Luang Phor Dam is a black-skinned Buddha statue in the posture of stopping relatives. This statue is believed to be around 1,000 years old and is chained at its feet. The tale goes that Luang Phor Dam was quite the flirt; as dusk fell, he would engage in flirtatious conversations with local maidens returning home after a day of farming. Unable to tolerate his behavior any longer, the villagers put a chain around his foot to prevent him from mingling with anyone again.
