Wat Chulamani

62 Moo 2, Borom Trailoknat Road, Tha Thong, Phitsanulok City.

Located on the eastern bank of the Nan River, just 5 kilometers south of downtown Phitsanulok along the Borom Trailoknart Road, this historic site is believed to predate the Sukhothai era and was once home to the ancient city of Song Khwae before it evolved into modern-day Phitsanulok. Historical accounts indicate that King Borom Trailokanath constructed a temple here and took his vows at this very site in 2007, staying for 8 months and 15 days, with a retinue of 2,348 officials ordaining with him. Within the temple precincts, visitors can admire an important historical structure: a small Khmer-style prang measuring 11 meters wide and 18 meters long, built of laterite. Its façade features a three-tiered base, with each level displaying intricate wood-carving-inspired corners capped with decorative stucco. The lower level showcases relief patterns, including a beautiful swan motif around the base and above, resembling the prang at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat in Lopburi. Nearby stands a replica of the Buddha's footprint, commissioned by King Narai the Great, with an inscription at its entrance summarizing that in 2221 B.E., King Narai issued a royal decree to create a fabric overlay of the Buddha's footprint, engraved on stone as a site for future worshippers to pay their respects. Traveling approximately 5 kilometers south from downtown Phitsanulok along Borom Trailoknart Road leads you to this remarkable destination.
