Wat Khiriwong

Wat Khiriwong

Matuli Road, Pak Nam Pho Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Sawan District.

Nestled on a hill in the heart of Nakhon Sawan, this temple complex features the main hall, a replica of Phra Buddha Kotham, the Sala Phutthanuphap, the Hall of Luang Por Tho, and the Phra Chulamani Chedi, which is regarded as one of the significant sacred sites in the province. Visitors can pay homage at the Phra Chulamani, a magnificent stupa that is a beloved icon of Nakhon Sawan. You have the opportunity to explore this grand four-story chedi. The first level serves as a place to light incense and candles in worship. Ascending to the second floor, you'll find lifelike statues of renowned monks from across Thailand, including Somdej Phra Phutthachao (To Phromrangsi), Luang Pu Thuat from Wat Chang Hai, and Luang Por Sod from Wat Pak Nam, alongside a model of the Buddha's footprint representing the twelve zodiac signs for the public to pay their respects and apply gold leaf for good fortune. On the third level, you will be greeted by a statue of Luang Por Mahaboonrod, the creator of this grand chedi, along with a brief history of his contributions. This level also houses important replicas of revered Buddha statues from Thailand for the public to worship, including Phra Buddha Mahamani Ratana Patimakorn (Emerald Buddha), Phra Buddha Chinnarat, Phra Buddha Sothorn, and a statue of Luang Por from Wat Rai Khing, complemented by stunning mural paintings depicting the life of Buddha. Moreover, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Nakhon Sawan from this level. The topmost fourth level offers a panoramic viewpoint of Nakhon Sawan, revealing far-reaching vistas. On clear days, you can see Khao Kob, Bueng Boraphet, and the market at Pak Nam Pho to the east, while the south presents views of Sawan Park, the Nakhon Sawan Provincial Hall, and Khao Chom Kiri Nakphrat. Turning to the west, you will encounter a range of mountains that resemble a majestic city wall, particularly striking during sunset. The experience of witnessing the sunset from this fourth level promises to be an unforgettable memory. Specifically, Wat Kiri Wong is the home of this remarkable chedi, recognized as a center for the dissemination of Buddhism in Nakhon Sawan, under the auspices of the Department of Religious Affairs. It is also the location of an educational park, a center for mental development in honor of the monarchy, and serves as the primary meditation center in the province. The first abbot was Phra Vikiram Munyi (Phra Maha Boonrod Panyawaro, P.H.5), who has been leading since 1976 to the present.
