I humbly pay my respects to Phra Buddha Nirorakantrai Chaiwat Jaturat, also known as the "Four Corners Buddha Statues," which consists of four images located in different regions. One of these revered images is found in Phatthalung Province, representing the Southern region of Thailand and serving as a guardian Buddha for the city. This statue is housed within the Jaturamuk Pavilion, situated between the Provincial Hall and the Court of Phatthalung. The statue is a bronze depiction of the Buddha in a meditation posture, bestowed by His Majesty King Rama IX to Phatthalung in 1968. Known as "Jaturaputhapakarn," the Phra Buddha Nirorakantrai Chaiwat Jaturat was created based on ancient beliefs and traditions that have continued since the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was believed necessary to have a sacred entity protect and oversee the four directions of the city. This creation follows the model of "Jaturaputhapakarn," which involves using temples or Buddha statues as fortifications to safeguard against dangers from enemies, ward off evil, enhance the fortunes of the region, and ensure the well-being of its people, allowing them to live in peace and happiness. Currently, the Phra Buddha Nirorakantrai Chaiwat Jaturat statues have been enshrined in various provinces according to the four cardinal directions of Thailand: - North: Lamphang City Pillar Shrine, Lamphang Province - South: Phatthalung Province - East: Sala Daeng Temple, Saraburi Province - West: Khao Kaen Chan, Ratchaburi Province Location: Mueang District, Phatthalung Province.
