The locals have collaborated to establish the Thung Yi Peng Eco-tourism Community, aiming to align tourism with the community's lifestyle while minimizing the impact on nature and the environment of the island. A nature conservation center was set up in Thung Yi Peng to preserve the mangrove forests and serve as an educational hub for ecological initiatives under the "Sea for Tomorrow" project. The main activities include constructing fish houses, planting mangroves, and restoring seagrass habitats while observing red eagles and kingfishers. Koh Lanta showcases stunning views of the Andaman Sea and is located along ancient shipping routes that connected Southern India to various kingdoms on the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. The name "Lanta" serves as a crucial reference for identifying the location of the island, which was historically a refuge from monsoons and a freshwater supply point. There is an Old Town Museum housed in a historical building known as Baan Pan Ya, which once served as the district office. Additionally, there are boat tours available to explore nearby islands, including Koh Ung, a small rocky island offering panoramic views, and Koh Talabeng.
