ในสมัยอาณาจักรขอมซึ่งได้ทิ้งมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมหลายประการไว้ เช่น ปราสาทหินและปรางค์กู่ ครั้นในสมัยอาณาจักรอยุธยา มีการยกบ้านปราสาทสี่เหลี่ยมโคกลำดวน(บริเวณใกลๆปราสาทกุด หรือปราสาทสี่เหลียมโคกลำดวน วัดเจ็ก อำเภอขุขันธ์ ในปัจจุบัน) เป็นเมืองขุขันธ์
