In the past, Takua Pa was a thriving city that prospered from foreign trade, particularly with Chinese immigrants who came to mine tin and establish their homes in large numbers. This turned Takua Pa into an important port city in southern Thailand, serving as a hub for commerce and cultural exchange among Chinese, Indian, and Arab influences. Today, the charm of the old town of Takua Pa can still be felt through its Sino-Portuguese architectural buildings, which primarily line five major streets: Srithakua Pa Road, Udomthara Road, Klang Kaeo Road, Montri 2 Road, and Na Mueang Road. Besides serving as residences, some of these buildings have been transformed into cafes and various shops, blending seamlessly with street art that narrates the city’s rich history. Every Sunday evening, Srithakua Pa Road hosts a walking street market, offering a wide array of local delicacies and snacks for visitors to enjoy.
