Khao Plara

Thung Nang Am, Lan Sak

Khao Plara serves as a natural boundary between Huai Soke Village in Lan Sak District and Khao Bang Krak Subdistrict in Nong Chang District, Uthai Thani Province. This mountain stands impressively at approximately 598 meters high, featuring a well-preserved forest. To reach the summit of Khao Plara, visitors must hike and climb in certain areas, covering a distance of 900 meters, which takes an estimated two hours. The viewpoint at the summit offers a stunning panoramic view of Uthai Thani from a different perspective. However, Khao Plara is not just renowned for its scenic vistas; it is also of immense archaeological significance. The site is home to prehistoric paintings that are about 3,000 years old, located on a cliff face at an elevation of 320 meters. The artwork consists of black and red lines that span approximately 9 meters. While the black lines have faded over time, the red remains visible, showcasing various figures of humans and animals. A total of 40 paintings have been discovered, providing insight into the social life of ancient people. Archaeologists have categorized these paintings into four groups: 1. The first group depicts humans amidst domesticated animals, presumably dogs. 2. The second group illustrates the relationship between humans and cattle, recounting tales of capturing wild cows to be domesticated. 3. The third group showcases ritualistic scenes, where figures are adorned differently than the general populace, accompanied by animal figures resembling monkeys. 4. The fourth group consists of miscellaneous images, primarily focusing on animals. Travel tips for hiking Khao Plara include preparing enough drinking water and wearing well-fitted hiking shoes since the path consists of small, slippery stones. It's advisable to carry only essential belongings. Location: Moo 3, Ban Chai Khao, Pa O Subdistrict, Lan Sak District, Uthai Thani Province.
