One of the most famous and talked-about tourist destinations in Phatthalung Province is the "Nong Thale Noi Waterfowl Park." This area was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1975, making it the first of its kind in Thailand, covering approximately 285,625 rai and spanning three provinces: Phatthalung, Songkhla, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. The majority of the area consists of flat lands around the lakes, including rice fields, peat forests, and grasslands, totaling about 94%, while the remaining 6% comprises water bodies. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of diverse plant species, along with the charm of various wildlife within this sanctuary. Activities to enjoy include: - Observing flocks of seagulls that migrate to the area from October to April each year, along with waterfowl found among the lotus and scattered reeds. You’ll be captivated by the sight of thousands of waterfowl taking flight simultaneously, accompanied by the sound of their flapping wings—an experience that is quite rare to witness. - Indulging in the vibrant pink lotus blooms that flourish each morning. You can rent a boat to leisurely explore the lotus fields at a price of 450 baht per boat, accommodating up to 10 people, and the ride will last about one hour. - Strolling through the reed forests that serve as a refuge for birds and aquatic animals. It’s important to approach the reeds carefully, as their fragile fibers can cut or prick the skin. - Relaxing at the Nariem Pavilion, an oasis of tranquility located at the mouth of the Nariem Canal, which can host around 30 people. This is a popular spot for visitors to take a break and enjoy lunch surrounded by nature. - Cruising along the Nariem Canal, which connects to Songkhla Lake, with various plant species lining both sides, including mangroves, water hyacinths, and more. - Visiting the local community in the Talay Noi village and shopping for souvenirs renowned in the area, including products made from the reed, such as hats, bags, mats, and coasters, as well as the delicious local dish, "Pla Duk Ra," a unique and savory fish that will have you coming back for more. Location: The park is situated in the Talay Noi sub-district of Khuan Khanun District, Phatthalung Province.
