Wat Hong is considered one of the ancient temples in the Thon Buri area, holding significant importance just like other temples nearby. This temple was established by a Chinese businessman named “Hong.” Later, King Taksin of Thon Buri took the temple under royal patronage, elevating it to a royal temple and making it an important center for the study of Buddhism, with a considerable number of monks residing there. The principal Buddha statue in the ubosot (ordination hall) is seated above the Rattan throne, adorned with a seven-tiered white umbrella. Flanking this central figure are two prominent disciples. The principal Buddha, known as Phra Saen or Luang Por Saen, is a bronze statue cast in black metal, depicted in a seated position of the Mara Victory posture, showcasing Chiang Saen art style. It is said that this statue was brought from the town of Chiang Tang in the year 2401 BE (1858 AD).
