In the digital age, finding good books to read has become a rarity. However, at the Wanvoradis Museum and the Damrong Rajanupab Library, thousands of ancient books await visitors, inviting them to explore and read. The museum is designed by Dr. Karl Siegfried Dohring, who also designed the Bang Khun Phrom Palace and the Rama Raj Niwet Palace in Phetchaburi. The building is three stories high, shaped like an "L" and features a tall, sharply angled gabled roof covered with locally sourced terracotta tiles from Songkhla. Its windows are designed as both arched and rectangular, with small windows on the front roof and sides for ventilation, following traditional European architectural styles. The floors are made from wood, with interior décor showcasing intricately carved wood and plaster floral motifs, embodying the Art Nouveau architectural style. Originally, this place served as the residence of His Highness Prince Damrong Rajanupab, revered as the father of Thai history and archaeology. In 1962, he was recognized by UNESCO as a significant figure in world history. The interiors illustrate the lifestyle of Prince Damrong, with furnishings reflecting the period when he was alive. Visitors can explore various rooms such as the dining room, Chinese room, bedroom, writing room, and a room designated for the royal ashes, housing the remains of Kings Rama I, II, IV, and V, along with those of Prince Damrong himself. The Damrong Rajanupab Library spans three floors: the first level houses personal book collections, the second showcases personal belongings, and the third features a gallery of royal portraits. Additionally, the library provides access to over 7,000 volumes, including journals, newspapers, and academic texts predominantly in the field of history and archaeology.
