The royal residence, a stunning example of Thai architecture, is becoming increasingly rare to see. It is a stroke of luck for the Thai people that the Bank of Thailand has allocated over 30 rai of land where the old palace is located to create the Bank of Thailand Museum. This palace was established by King Rama V, using funds from the royal treasury, to serve as the residence for Prince Birabha Sukunpana, the 33rd son of the king, and Princess Sukhumal Marasri, the royal consort. After 1932, the Bang Khun Phrom Palace was used as a governmental facility for a while. In 1945, the Bank of Thailand began to use it as its operational site, and by 1982, it was transformed into the Bank of Thailand Museum. The museum consists of a two-story building divided into 14 rooms. On the first floor, you will find the Ancient Currency Room, the Beetle Room, the Thai Coin Room, the Thai Banknotes Room, the Gold Stamp Room, and the Foreign Currency Room. The second floor houses the 60-Year Bank of Thailand Room, the Banknote Printing Room, the Birabha Room, a small conference room, the Pink Room, the Blue Room, the Horse Room, and the Evolution Room. The museum is open for visits from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and is closed on public holidays and bank holidays. Entrance is free of charge, but it is advisable to contact in advance for visits by calling 0 2544 3858. Location: Situated in the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, in the same area as the Bank of Thailand on Samsen Road, Phra Nakhon District. Visitors can enjoy a free tour every Monday to Friday, except on public holidays. For more information, call 0 2544 3858.
