The classic two-story architecture of this house, constructed entirely of teak wood, is a heritage of a wealthy family from Kamphaeng Phet. Its impressive feature is that every pillar is crafted from a single, long piece of teak wood, and the front also showcases intricately carved wooden decorations. Furthermore, in front of the house lies a long canal known as "Klong Suan Mak." This house belonged to "Pa Po," a Burmese chieftain involved in the timber trade at the mouth of Klong Suan Mak during the reign of King Rama V, who purchased it from Phra Ya Ram. In 1906, when King Chulalongkorn traveled to Kamphaeng Phet, he visited Pa Po's house, which later inspired the name "Ban Hang R.5." According to history, Mong Supho or Phra Ya Taka, the brother of Pa Po, sought to rent land for timber trading from Phra Ya Kamphaeng Phet around the end of King Rama IV’s reign, around 1875, until his passing in 1885. Subsequently, in 1886, Pa Po began his timber business by establishing his residence at the mouth of Klong Suan Mak, an ideal location for dragging and transporting timber logs from the forests down to Nakhon Sawan, the largest timber trading hub in the lower northern region. Driven by their deep faith in Buddhism, Pa Po and Phra Ya Taka (his brother) collaborated on the restoration of the chedi and the construction of the umbrella atop Wat Phra Borom That Chedi in Nakhon Chum. Ban Hang R.5 is located on Highway 1078, Tambon Nakhon Chum, Muang District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, near Wat Sawang Arom. Tourists can stroll alongside the canal from Wat Sawang Arom, approximately 500 meters away. However, the house has deteriorated over time while still retaining its old-fashioned charm, which is why there is a sign stating, "Do not enter the house." Tourists are advised to adhere strictly to this guideline to preserve Ban Hang R.5 for future generations.
