"Nakhon Chum" is an ancient city located at the mouth of the Suan Mak canal on the western bank of the Ping River, directly across from Kamphang Phet. It emerged during the Sukhothai era, particularly during the reign of King Mahathammaracha I (Lithai). Nakhon Chum held the status of a vassal city, serving as a western outpost for Sukhothai. This period is considered the golden age of Buddhism, with flourishing arts and architecture. King Mahathammaracha I established the Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat and planted the sacred Bodhi tree in Nakhon Chum, which became the foundation for the traditional "Nop Phra Len Phleng" ceremony that continues to this day. Later, when efforts were made to restore the Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat stupa, inscriptions were discovered on silver tablets buried in the crypt, detailing the legend of the creation of “Phra Phim,” which is now commonly referred to as “amulets.”
