Bueng Khong Long

Bung Khong Long, Bung Khong Long.

In 1977, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej initiated a project through the Royal Irrigation Department to consider water retention projects for agriculture during the dry season. This initiative was completed in 1980 and led to the declaration of the Bung Khong Long area as a wildlife sanctuary. Later, in 2001, Bung Khong Long was designated as a Wetland of International Importance, ranking as the 1,098th site in the world. This recognition is attributed to its rich biodiversity, serving as a habitat for various aquatic animals and plants. The area is home to over 100 species of waterfowl and more than 30 species of migratory birds, including the rare dwarf catfish. Bung Khong Long also features "Kam Som Pun Beach," a long stretch of sandy beach that provides a relaxing getaway. Visitors can enjoy activities like tubing and pedal boating, as well as dine at local restaurants. The scenic views of Bung Khong Long are further enhanced by the prominent backdrop of Phu Langka mountain.
