The residents of the Bang Bai Mai community lead a lifestyle that revolves around the two sides of the canal, with most engaged primarily in coconut farming and fishing. Their way of life is centered on self-sufficiency. Bang Bai Mai is an ancient community that dates back over two hundred years to the era of King Taksin, when he waged war on Nakhon Si Thammarat. Khun Phajan Chuk, a loyal soldier to the city lord, observed that the lord of Nakhon could not withstand the siege by King Taksin. Therefore, he ordered his troops to board boats in an attempt to escape. Khun Phajan Chuk, along with his loyal soldiers and family, fled via the Luong River through Don Village, aiming for Chaiya. However, Chaiya also fell to King Taksin's forces. Consequently, Khun Phajan Chuk retreated into a small canal that was suitable for settlement, where he erected about five large houses and named the place "Moo Baan Yai," which has since evolved into what we know today as the Bang Bai Mai sub-district.
