Established on April 13, 1782, the original complex consisted of two temples: Wat Nok and Wat Nai, collectively known as Wat Bang Jak. Later, during the 116th year of the Rattanakosin era (1890), it was renamed "Wat Bang Bai Mai." The name was given by Mr. Klin Nam Phet, the first village headman who later became the first mayor. The temple was granted the status of a sacred area (visungkhamsima) in 1967.
