Hong Mun Mang, Khon Kaen

The road around the lake in the city of Khon Kaen.

Hoang is a treasure hall. Hoang Moon in Khon Kaen is a treasure hall that collects the stories which are the origins of the city of Khon Kaen. Located near Kaen Nakhon Lake in Mueang District, it serves as a museum that reflects the living conditions and is a center for research on the history of Khon Kaen. The term "Hoang Moon Mang" comes from the Isan language, divided into two parts: "Hoang," meaning a hall or a spacious room, and "Moon Mang," meaning treasures or heritage. Therefore, "Hoang Moon Mang of Khon Kaen" refers to a room that consolidates treasures, reflecting the history and stories of Khon Kaen, allowing visitors to experience the lifestyle and existence of the people of Khon Kaen from the past to the present. The Hoang Moon Mang of Khon Kaen is divided into five zones based on the content regarding governance, lifestyle, wisdom, and cultural identity, stretching from prehistoric times through settlement periods and continuing to the vibrant present-day city we know as Khon Kaen. The exhibitions within the Hoang Moon Mang utilize models combined with modern media, including slides, videos, multimedia presentations, graphic boards, figurines, and descriptive images. Zone 1 introduces the city of Khon Kaen, Zone 2 explores the history and culture of Khon Kaen, Zone 3 covers the establishment of the city, Zone 4 discusses the lives and traditions of the people of Khon Kaen, and Zone 5 presents Khon Kaen today. Admission fees are 10 baht for children, 20 baht for adults, and 90 baht for foreigners. The museum is open every day from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, except Mondays. For more information, you can call the Khon Kaen Municipality office at 0 4327 1173 or 0 4322 4031 ext. 1603 during business hours. Facilities for the disabled and elderly include accessible parking, though there is no designated disabled parking space; however, the available parking area is wide and near the museum entrance. The connecting pathways and surrounding areas are all on the same level as the exterior. Inside the museum, there are no steps. There are wheelchair ramps with appropriate width, surface materials, and incline levels. Disability symbols are marked at the ramp entrances. Explore the sustainable local wisdom through the textile route in Khon Kaen Province, engaging with local crafts from the Sukho group, and experiencing rural life through the artistic expressions of faith exemplified by "Hoop Taem and Sim Isan."
