The Lam Pao Dam is a large earth dam and a popular tourist destination in Kalasin Province. It is located in the districts of Sahatsakhan, Kham Muang, and Yang Talat, approximately 36 kilometers from the city of Kalasin. The dam stands 33 meters above the water surface, with a crest that is 7.8 meters long and 8 meters wide. Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1968 to block the flow of the Pao River and Huai Yang at Ban Nong Song Hong in Lam Pao Subdistrict, Mueang Kalasin District. This project resulted in the creation of twin reservoirs on the northern side of the dam, which are connected by a channel. With a water storage capacity of 1.43 billion cubic meters, the dam was built primarily to mitigate flooding and support agricultural activities.
