Phraya Chai Sunthon Monument (Tao Soma Phamit)

Phraya Chai Sunthon Monument (Tao Soma Phamit)

Located in front of the telegraph post office in Kalasin Province.

Originally, Thao Somphamit served in the royal court of Vientiane. Later, he was graciously appointed as the first governor of Kalasin by King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) of the Rattanakosin Kingdom of Siam, establishing the city as a tributary state. The monument of Phaya Chai Sunthorn is cast in bronze at life-size, standing on a pedestal with his right hand holding a water pot and his left hand gripping a sword, symbolizing his authority. The people of Kalasin collectively constructed this monument to express their gratitude to the founder of the city.
