The King Rama I Monument, or Phra Pathom Borom Ratcha Nussorn, stands prominently at the foot of the Phra Pathom Bridge on the Phra Nakhon side of Bangkok. This monument was commissioned by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) to commemorate the first monarch of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, as the kingdom was approaching its 150th anniversary in 1932. In tandem with the monument's construction, a bridge over the Chao Phraya River was built to connect with the Thonburi side. Designed by His Royal Highness Prince Narathip Pradit Mahisorn, the statue depicts the king adorned in royal regalia, seated majestically on the throne. The statue was crafted by Professor Silpa Bhirasri of Silpakorn University, who sculpted and cast it in bronze. The statue's height measures 4.60 meters from its base to the top (an additional meter was later added to the pedestal). The base itself stretches 2.30 meters wide and is supported by a layer of marble. In front of the statue, offerings are arranged with flower garlands and ceremonial trays, accompanied by fountains flanking both sides. The area surrounding the base features a circular concrete fence with decorative elements. The center section of this fence is adorned with a marble slab that mimics traditional Thai motifs, and prominently displays an elephant figure, symbolizing the "First Chakri Dynasty." On either side of the monument are gradual staircases leading down from the Phra Pathom Bridge to the ground floor, accentuated by a beautiful array of flowering plants. Location: Tri Petch Road, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang Sub-district, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok.
