"Jao Mae Chui Puin Niew" translates to "Goddess of the Water," revered by sailors and fishermen as the divine protector of those traversing the seas. This goddess symbolizes the mystical guardian of maritime journeys. The origin of this shrine can be traced back to the historical significance of Nonthaburi as a prominent port city and a crucial trading hub by water. Often referred to as "Goddess of Ruby," Jao Mae Chui Puin Niew is adorned with the beautiful red ruby, which has become her signature jewel. The Chinese merchants in Nonthaburi decided to construct this shrine as a place of worship for the local market community. Upon its completion, they enshrined the Ruby Goddess and created a replica of the city’s guardian deity, which they placed alongside her in the shrine. Since that time, both the Chinese community and the traders in the area have lived harmoniously, prospering in their businesses. It is said that those who come to pay their respects and pray at this shrine often see their wishes fulfilled, particularly regarding their commercial endeavors.
