Originally, it was an abandoned temple called Wat Si Khun Muang until the year 1906, when Phra Ya Sunthorn Thepkijarak, the governor of Nakhon Phanom, wrote to invite Phra Bhikkhu Chan Khemiyo to establish a Dhammayut temple in the city. With his knowledge and expertise, he developed Wat Si Khun Muang to flourish over time, eventually renaming it Wat Si Thep Pradittharam, a name it holds to this day.
