For those captivated by tales of the past, if the little world at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya hasn’t fully quenched your thirst for history, take a moment to visit Wat Kaew, which is not far away. While the exact date of its construction remains unknown, it is believed that the chedi at Wat Kaew was built during the same period as the chedi at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, specifically between the 14th to 15th century of the Buddhist calendar. This ancient site is a stunning example of Srivijaya architecture, constructed in a brick style without mortar. The base of the chedi is square-shaped and features four protruding corners, with each corner elegantly designed in a "Yom Khun" style. The eastern alcove leads to the central chamber of the chedi, where you'll find a Buddha statue in the Mara Vijaya pose positioned in every alcove. The Archaeological Office of the Fine Arts Department undertook restoration work from 1976 to 1979, making it one of the nation's significant historical sites. Location: Wat Kaew is situated in Ban Wat Kaew, Lamet Sub-district, Chaiya District, approximately 1 kilometer from Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya. From Chaiya District, take Highway 4011 toward Chaiya Intersection, cross the railway and continue for about 500 meters, and you will see Wat Wiang on your left.
