Plah Village is an ancient settlement that has stood for centuries. Originally, there was no temple in the village. Some elders recount that there was once a temple called Nong Muang, located approximately 1 kilometer to the north of what is now Plah Village. However, as time passed, the Nong Muang temple fell into disrepair, prompting the villagers to come together to establish Plah Temple as a new place for merit-making around the year 1888. The initial efforts were led by a monk known as Ajahn Ong (whose full name has been lost to time), who oversaw the construction of the temple for over a decade. In 1898, a benefactor named Mae Thiam Jirawong generously donated funds to build three wooden monk’s quarters, a prayer hall, and a kitchen, marking the foundation of the temple as we know it today. The temple has continued to thrive under the care of various monks since, notably by Phra Vinai Thorasarocha, who constructed a bell tower in a traditional Thai architectural style, complete with magnificent windows, doors, decorative gable ends, and gilded glass embellishments that stand beside the main ordination hall. In 1981, Phra Vinai Thorasarocha disrobed, leading the villagers of Plah to invite Phra Khru Samuh Boonrod Ratninkharo from Mab Chaluut Temple to take on the role of abbot. Under his leadership, concrete monk's quarters were built in a two-story design, each subdivided into six rooms, with a total of five constructed to date. Each unit costs around 500,000 baht. He also initiated the construction of a new chapel to replace the aging structure and restored the old prayer hall. In 1993, Phra Khru Samuh Boonrod stepped down from his position, returning to Mab Chaluut Temple. The villagers and the monastic community subsequently appointed Phra Athikarn Mongkol as the new abbot. However, in 1998, he too resigned from the position. In March 1999, Phra Theppakunathorn, the bishop of Rayong Province, requested the transfer of Phra Khru Palad Noparat Jantosapho, the assistant abbot of Phai Lom Temple in Chanthaburi. He officially assumed the role of abbot on March 25, 1999. Upon taking charge, Phra Khru Palad Noparat initiated extensive construction and renovation projects, including a new bell tower, kitchen facilities, restrooms, and guest quarters. Additionally, he established a daycare center and repaired the ordination hall while enhancing the temple’s surroundings by planting trees along the beach to create a serene and beautiful resting place for visitors. Moreover, in terms of public benefit, efforts were made to procure educational materials for Wat Plah School, including the installation of a sign for the school and various teaching aids to support local education.
