Wat Pa Sai Ngam, Det Udom District

Muang Detch Subdistrict, Dech Udom District

Wat Pa Sai Ngam is located to the west of Dech Udom District, approximately 1 kilometer from the Dech Udom bus station. It was established as a meditation center in 1972, occupying an area of 25 rai of public forest land (formerly a cemetery) that was dry and barren, lacking large trees. Wat Pa Sai Ngam came into existence through the devotion of the local community towards the teachings of Luang Pu Chah Subhatto from Wat Nong Pah Pong. The residents of Dech Udom would visit him to seek guidance in their practices. In response, Luang Pu Chah compassionately sent Phra Athikan Anek Yosathino, originally from Dech Udom, to serve as the head monk of this meditation center, which is now recognized as the 10th branch of Wat Nong Pah Pong. The center regularly hosts around 8 to 10 monks each year, as at that time there were several affiliated temples under the Wat Pa Sai Ngam network, leading to the dispatch of monks to these branches. Wat Pa Sai Ngam achieved full temple status in 2002 and now spans 130 rai. They have excavated an 8-meter-wide and 4-meter-deep canal, using the soil to create earthen walls for the temple, with trees planted as a natural fence. This earthen barrier significantly reduces noise disturbances from the outside community, while also cleverly storing water that nourishes the vegetation and serves as a breeding ground for aquatic life. Various species of lotus flowers have been planted in the area, which also helps lower temperatures during the hot season. In recognition of their efforts, the temple won first prize in the Permanent Forest Planting Project in honor of His Majesty the King in 2001, receiving a gold medal from His Royal Highness Prince Vajiralongkorn on August 5, 2002. Wat Pa Sai Ngam adheres closely to the teachings of Wat Nong Pah Pong, focusing on fostering wisdom among Buddhists and encouraging self-reliance in problem-solving. Emphasizing diligence, the monks both teach and exemplify perseverance in their meditation practices and daily routines, using mindfulness to guide their actions in order to develop concentration and insight into various issues. Notably, the temple does not rely on amulets, does not distribute talismans, avoids the use of holy water rituals, and refrains from hosting any form of entertainment. Fundraising practices are not common; rather, contributions are encouraged to be made out of genuine faith.
