The idea to create the temple originated from Phra Ajarn Suriyant Khosapan, the abbot of the temple, who proposed the establishment of a new temple. As a result, the local community of Maha Sarakham came together to donate over thirty rai of land. The development transformed the neglected land into a beautiful temple, reflecting the devotion of Buddhist practitioners. Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen is uniquely characterized by its primary construction material, which is wood, incorporating varieties such as redwood, padauk, and golden teak. Notably, it features a large prayer hall supported by 112 wooden pillars, making it the largest of its kind in Thailand.
