Wat Doi Mae Paeng was established in 1936 and is well-known as the place where Luang Pu Waen Sujinno resided from 1962 until his passing in 1985. The temple features several structures associated with this renowned monk, including a wooden pavilion, Luang Pu Waen's kuti (a monk's dwelling), a wooden kuti known as the "Giles Roasting Room" or "Fire Room", and a hall housing a life-sized statue of Luang Pu Waen. Located approximately 75 kilometers from the city center along the Chiang Mai-Mae Jo-Prao route (Highway No. 1001), there are two options for transportation via public buses: a red four-wheel vehicle (50 Baht per trip) or an air-conditioned bus (70 Baht per trip), which can be boarded at Kad Luang by the Ping River. For the return journey, public transportation passes by the temple, allowing for convenient travel back and forth.
