Wat Chalo

Bang Krui-Sai Noi Road, Wat Chalo Subdistrict, Bang Krui District.

Wat Chalo is located in the Chalo Subdistrict of Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province, along the Bang Kruai-Sai Noi road. This temple boasts a rich history dating back to the Ayutthaya period. His Majesty King Boromakot traveled along the Chao Phraya River passing through Nonthaburi, eventually reaching the canal known as "Lad," now referred to as Bang Kruai Canal. He observed that this area would be suitable for the establishment of a temple. However, it was believed to be a cursed spot, as in the past, Chinese trading ships had sunk there, resulting in the deaths of many crew members. During the construction of the temple, numerous obstacles arose. In a moment of devotion, the king made a solemn vow to the deities and experienced a prophetic dream in which an elderly Chinese man advised him to build the main hall in the shape of a traditional Chinese ship to ward off bad luck. Consequently, the temple was constructed with a vessel-shaped main hall, reflecting this unique belief and history.
