The statue of the Naga, known as Phaya Si Sattha Nakharat, is the largest brass Naga statue in Northeast Thailand. It is beautifully crafted and stands out prominently. This magnificent statue is made of brass and weighs a total of 9,000 kilograms, depicting a Naga with seven heads coiling its tail. It is positioned on an octagonal base that measures 6 meters in width, with a total height of 15 meters including the base. The statue is also designed to spout water. It is widely recognized among Thai and Lao people that there is a deep-rooted belief connected to the Naga, much like the bond they share with the Mekong River. For generations, elders have revered the Naga as a sacred guardian of the Mekong River basin, safeguarding Buddhism and the revered Phra That Phanom temple. The purpose of constructing this statue is to preserve the cultural traditions and beliefs surrounding the Naga among the Thai and Lao communities living along the banks of the Mekong River.
